Dear UC Davis Community,

Welcome to Model United Nations at UC Davis!

Model United Nations at UC Davis is the club for anyone interested in politics, history, diplomacy, travel, competition, wordplay, and debate. Model United Nations is founded on the belief that anyone can debate and that everyone has something to learn. Because of this philosophy, where every opinion is not only valued, but more importantly coveted and respected, Model United Nations’ membership is broad and inclusive. Coupled with the importance we place on our individual members, the only restriction placed on membership is being an active UC Davis Undergraduate student, so anyone, regardless of age, major, background, skill level, or whatever other metric you want to use is encouraged to join!
Now you might be wondering what exactly Model United Nations is? Is it akin to House of Cards? Actually, sort of. At its most basic level, Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations, where members debate, lobby, and attempt to construct actionable solutions to real or historical problems. In a broader sense, Model United Nations at UC Davis is a family. We take the time you invest in this club seriously and as a result invest in you. Not only will you have the opportunity to partake in conferences (both competing and hosting), you will learn valuable life skills, network, go to socials, create friendships, find a sense of community, develop confidence, hone your public speaking skills, learn about your community and the world around you, and most importantly you will have fun during the whole of it!
As mentioned earlier there are no requirements, aside from being a current UC Davis student, to joining the club. We ENCOURAGE students with no experience to join, because not only will newcomers learn a great deal about themselves, newcomers usually have fresh perspectives that aid in the development of the club as well as our teaching strategies. In terms of travel and competition, travel rosters are chosen by Executive members of the club based on past performances and a conference’s level of competition. Regardless, all members are encouraged to apply and we’ll do our best to give you a chance to compete and make sure you get what you want out of the club! And don’t worry, we conduct trainings and committee simulations to help prepare you for whatever may come your way. If you have any more questions or simply want more information in regards to what Model United Nations is or what conferences we participate in, please bust open that ‘About Us’ tab above.
